Notes from the road
Where To Go Now
For our American travelers who are looking for places to hike, bike, paddle and get active this summer, open luxe spots include the Montage Laguna Beach Hotel and Lake Powell’s, Amangiri.
Additional domestic options include the soon-to-be-open, bike-friendly Fess Parker Wine Country Inn, as well as Belmond El Encanto near Santa Barbara. Lodges and ranches open include Dunton Hot Springs and Taylor River Lodge in Colorado, and Wyoming’s Brushcreek Lodge. Alaska’s Still Point Lodge outside of Homer; Tutka Bay Lodge; Ultima Thule Lodge; and Winterlake Lodge all planning to open as of June. Heading East, Blackberry Farm in Tennessee is a great escape for adventure offerings in the Smokey Mountains, and we’ll be heading to Lexington, Kentucky to cycle some of the quietest and smoothest roads in the country. For those wanting to tackle the open road via RV travel, AFAR outlines the scoop on the reopening of National Parks being done throughout the country. Canada is still closed for Americans, but Canadians can head to top-notch spots such as Manoir Hovey in Quebec & the always-compelling Fogo Island Inn in Newfoundland.
