Spain

Spain is rightfully at the top of most every active traveler’s list! When planning Gray & Co.’s custom itineraries, our expert producers link up with local talents around the country to guide guests on the ultimate curated journeys – from the Camino to Santiago to Catalonia!

Navigating the mainland and islands by private jet, luxe SUV and yacht — and, of course, on foot and by bike — we’ll help you explore culturally rich cities, stunning Mediterranean islands, otherworldly landscapes and wild coastlines. Along the way, you’ll experience unique age-old traditions, unfamiliar wines and spirits, and eat versions of jamon or ham that you simply won’t find anywhere else. Don’t forget all the UNESCO World Heritage sites!

The city of Barcelona, perched right on the Med, offers beautiful beaches, the surreal architectural wonders of Antoni Gaudí, tapas bars, and Michelin-starred meccas of high cuisine. Begin with a waterfront bike ride followed by a historian-led walking tour of Gothic old town, the Picasso Museum and Gaudí’s famed Sagrada Familia cathedral and Parc Güell, with lunch along the way at a locals’ favorite. Always a hit with families, Barcelona offers kid-friendly museums and the chance to see Barcelona F.C. play soccer. Nearby Catalonia features great biking and plenty of Salvador Dali. Among the Priorat vineyards, the opening of Mas D’En Bruno offers up a whole new region for cyclists!

A short flight away, Mallorca, the largest of the western Med’s Balearic Islands, is paradise for cyclists, hikers and kayakers. Gray & Co.’s bespoke rides and walks take you on smooth roads and scenic trails through quaint towns nestled in the Tramuntana Mountains and secluded calas (beaches) hidden among gorges, plus orange, olive and almond groves. The capital city of Palma, meanwhile, bursts with culture and history. Amazing hotels include the pefectly renovated Son Net, the sprawling Belmond’s La Residencia, overlooking the Med in the arty village of Deià and the Finca Serena which is perfectly located for cycling. On nearby Menorca island, the new Vestige Son Vell is off the charts!

The southern region of Andalusia features whitewashed villages, Sierra Nevada mountains, sherry bottling and Moorish architecture. Gray & Co. offers an inside track on the must-visit — and much-visited — cities of Seville and Granada. In the countryside, consider Finca Cortesin’s lavish resort or the eco-luxe retreat of La Donaira. In the mornings, enjoy custom hikes through gorges, or private bike rides into the mountains, a preferred training ground for pro cyclists. Afternoons can be spent at one of over 100 golf courses or saddling up on an Andalusian horse for a forest ride.

Beyond this trio of key destinations, Spain also provides the chance to surf awesome waves along its northern coastline, peddle through Rioja’s lush vineyards, explore Madrid’s museums, ski or bike the Pyrenees and hike the many historic pilgrim routes of the Camino de Santiago. Our little black book of Spanish favorites is ever-expanding.
