Notes from the road
The best family vacations balance time together and time apart. Whatever their age, everyone should be having the best time ever! Gray & Co. curates aplenty of choice and flexibility into our trips, creating days full of active experiences, learning, relaxation and exploration for all ages.
What’s cool for kids ages 5 to 8 is a whole lot different than what appeals to tweens, teens, and adults, so we plan accordingly by designing multiple bespoke itineraries for each day. Using our high guide-to-traveler ratio (typically 1:2) and firsthand destination knowledge, we seamlessly weave all these plans into reality. Highlights of each day is together time, when the entire family shares a farmhouse lunch or a star-gazing dinner — and sets up time to eat, relax, cuddle and talk about the day’s adventures.
On one recent multigenerational trip to South Africa — designed for members ages from 5 to 75 — we crafted each day to provide the ideal itinerary for each person. One morning in Cape Town, grandparents enjoyed an exclusive curator-led tour of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art while parents hiked the iconic Table Mountain. Teenagers, meanwhile, cage-dived with sharks, and the youngest grandkids explored Two Oceans Aquarium. In the afternoon, everyone reunited at Boulders Beach (home to an African penguin colony) before a helicopter tour of the coast. Cocktails and dinner followed, with babysitters on hand to give parents a break.
We love planning one-of-a-kind trips like this — journeys that incorporate activities for all ages. And we relish the chance to perfect each and every aspect. Because we take care of all the many moving pieces, our travelers are entirely free to have fun and relax. That’s our ultimate goal: We sweat the complex details, so that our travelers don’t have to. As families yearn to reunite and share meaningful experiences once again, we’re especially eager right now to help you spin the globe and craft the most special multigenerational adventures.
