Notes from the road

Wilderness Lodges

South of Yellowstone in Wyoming, our faves include Amangani, in Jackson, and newcomer 3Spear Ranch, tucked into Wind River Valley.

Hiking at Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado

Brush Creek Ranch, in Saratoga, is set on 30,000 acres of a working cattle ranch with views of the Sierra Madre and Snowy Mountain ranges.

In Colorado, Dunton Hot Springs is set in an alpine valley among the Colorado Rockies in Rio Grande National Forest. This 19th-century mining village turned ghost town turned luxury resort is the ultimate adventure playground. Activities include bathing in natural hot springs, horseback riding in the high Rockies, mountain biking, mountaineering, hiking, fly fishing, rafting, archeological day tripping to Mesa Verde National Park, photography classes, spa time and yoga.

The Lodge at Blue Sky, Utah

Utah boasts the Lodge at Blue Sky, set on a private 3,500-acre ranch in the Wasatch Mountain Range, just outside of Park City. The property features an infinity pool and spa as well as the High West Bourbon distillery and extensive horse stables. In the town of Page, Arizona, the ultra-ultra-luxe Amangiri opened its safari-style tented Camp Sarika last summer to rave reviews. During a stay at Amangiri, you can boat on nearby Lake Powell, complete a Via Ferrata course, enjoy a hot-air balloon ride, hike slot canyons, practice yoga on a mesa and enjoy the resort’s spa.
